Alassio, which recently turned one thousand years old, has its roots in the tradition of the legend of Adelasia, daughter of Emperor Otto I, who, together with Aleramo, found refuge in the territory of present-day Alassio.
It is believed that the first settlements date back to the 10th century, when some families settled on the hill known as the ‘Castlé’ Madonna delle Grazie, where the oldest coat of arms of Alassio is still preserved. These families later descended from the heights on the beach, giving rise to the ‘Burgum Alaxii’.
Alassio is the scent of the sea, the warm sun and the intense sky, the strong colours and the sweet colours, the living heart of the bay. The water is clear and the fine sand slopes gently, making it possible to walk a long way through the waves. The climate is mild because the Bay is sheltered, and in winter, as the English already did at the beginning of the century, one can sunbathe in peace.
In summer, beach life explodes, the night, the desire to have fun, games, shows, meetings are born.
All kinds of sports can be practised at any time of the year, in contact with the sea air or the green hills.
Finally, Alassio is as beautiful by day as it is by night: strolling through the alleys and ancient palazzi, chatting in renowned cafés, shopping in the elegant boutiques of the famous ‘Budello’, the famous tiles of the Muretto, the worldliness, the characters.
Overlooking everything from afar is the Gallinara island, a still unspoilt natural paradise.
Directly overlooking the sea, the Hotel Majestic offers its guests a spectacular view of the crystal-clear waters of the Ligurian Riviera.
